Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and PT Sarana Edukasi Lingua Franca (“SELF English”, “we”, “us”) and govern your use of the SELF English app and website (the “Service”). By downloading the app, creating an account, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
  • You sign in with your Google account. You are responsible for keeping that account secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
  • You must give accurate information when creating an account. One account is for one person; accounts may not be shared or sold.

3. The Service

SELF English provides English lessons following the CEFR framework (Levels A1–C2), including listening, speaking and sentence-building exercises, pronunciation scoring, and progress tracking. Level A1 is free. Levels A2–C2 require a Premium subscription.

Pronunciation scores and level labels are learning aids generated automatically. They are not official certifications and do not guarantee results in any exam, job, or other assessment. We continuously improve the Service and may add, change, or remove features or content.

4. Premium subscriptions and payment

  • Price. Premium is offered at the price shown in the app at the time of purchase (currently Rp49,900 per month in Indonesia). Prices may vary by country and may include applicable taxes.
  • Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google under their terms.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app or your SELF English account does not automatically cancel a subscription. After cancelling, you keep Premium access until the end of the current paid period.
  • Free plan. Level A1 is free with no time limit and does not require a subscription or payment details. You only pay if you choose to upgrade to Premium.
  • Price changes. If we change the subscription price, you will be notified in advance through the app store, as required by Apple or Google, and may cancel before the new price applies.

5. Refunds

Because payments are processed by Apple and Google, refund requests are handled by them under their refund policies:

Except where required by law, we do not provide refunds or credits for partial subscription periods. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under Indonesian consumer protection law.

6. Acceptable use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • copy, resell, redistribute, or publicly share lesson content, audio, video, images or characters outside the app;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to access the Service’s source code or systems, except as permitted by law;
  • bypass payment, subscription, or level restrictions, or use bots or automation to manipulate scores or streaks;
  • upload or record content that is unlawful, abusive, or infringes others’ rights;
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service or other users.

7. Intellectual property

All content in the Service — including lessons, curriculum design, audio, video, text, the SELF English name and logo, and the characters Elf and Elfie — belongs to SELF English or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial learning.

You keep ownership of your voice recordings and answers. You give us a limited licence to process them to provide and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (see Delete Your Account). We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Where reasonable, we will notify you first. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.

9. Disclaimers

We work hard to keep the Service accurate, available and useful, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that pronunciation scores will be perfectly accurate, or that you will reach any particular level of English within a given time.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SELF English will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits, or opportunities arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Indonesian law.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. If a dispute arises, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it amicably. If it cannot be resolved within 30 days, it will be settled by the competent district court in Indonesia, without prejudice to your rights under consumer protection law.

12. Apple and Google

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and SELF English only, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the App Store’s Usage Rules. The same applies, as relevant, to Google Play.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
